This Privacy Policy describes how Dakota Labs LLC ("Dakota Labs," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and handles information when you use Malefic, our iOS application available on the Apple App Store.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not build profiles for third-party targeting. Full stop.
Account information. Malefic uses Sign in with Apple exclusively for authentication. When you sign in, Apple passes us a stable identifier (your Apple user ID) and, on first sign-in only, your email address if you choose to share it. We use this solely to create and maintain your account.
Birth information you provide. To generate your personalized horror horoscope, you provide your birthdate (required), birth time (optional), and birth location (optional). This information is used to calculate your sun sign, moon sign, and rising sign, and to generate your daily readings. It is stored on our servers and associated with your account.
Usage data. We may collect basic usage metrics such as which app features are used and when, app version, and iOS version. This helps us improve the product and is not linked to your identity for advertising purposes.
Subscription data. If you subscribe to Malefic Premium, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card information. We receive a subscription status from Apple's StoreKit to unlock premium features on your account.
Push notifications. If you opt in, we may send daily reading notifications. Notification permission is managed by iOS and can be revoked at any time.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating Malefic.
Apple (Sign in with Apple / App Store / StoreKit / APNs). Account authentication, subscription management, and push notifications. Apple's own privacy policy governs data Apple collects. We receive only what Apple passes to us — a user identifier and optionally an email address.
Groq (AI Generation). Daily readings and personalized astrological content are generated using Groq's language model API. Requests include astrological context (sign, date, relevant profile data) but are not linked to personally identifiable information. Groq's privacy policy: groq.com/privacy-policy.
Railway (Backend Hosting). Our server infrastructure is hosted on Railway. Your account data and generated content are stored on Railway-managed servers. Railway does not access your data for its own purposes.
Cloudflare. Our API traffic may pass through Cloudflare's network for performance and security. Cloudflare may log request metadata per their own policy.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
AI-generated readings may be retained in aggregate for service improvement purposes, but are not linked to your identity.
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data: HTTPS/TLS for all connections, secure token storage, and access controls on our backend systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure — we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Access and correction. Contact us to request access to your personal data or to correct inaccurate information.
Deletion. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing hello@dak-labs.dev. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Push notifications. You can manage or revoke notification permissions at any time via iOS Settings.
Sign in with Apple. You can revoke Malefic's access to your Apple ID at any time via Settings → [Your Name] → Password & Security → Apps Using Apple ID.
Subscription management. You can cancel your Malefic subscription at any time via Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your iOS device.
Malefic is rated 17+ on the App Store due to horror-themed content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under 17. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may provide additional notice within the app. Continued use of Malefic after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
